PROTON  is looking forward to this weekend’s Sepang 1000km endurance race which is also known as the ‘mother of all battles’ for cars below 1.8 litres by fielding 2 R3 Proton Racing cars when we won 1st and 3rd overall in qualifying lap time for the S1K.

PROTON announced the driver’s line-up, the new team of veteran Faidzil Alang partnering James Veerapan in his R3 Satria Neo race car and his other team mates, Syafiq Ali and Shahrizal Jamaludin in a R3 Gen-2 race car.

Faidzil Alang is no stranger in the racing circuit and has been racing in the local championships for the last 8 years.  Faidzil will be hoping to continue his good form in S1K, from last weekend when he bagged the overall title in the MTC, finishing the season with a whopping 230 points, 80 points above team mate, Syafiq Ali in a 1-2 finish for R3.

This third edition of the increasingly popular S1K takes a new date in December.   A spin-off event from the hugely successful MMER, S1K pits production cars below 1900cc and has already attracted international entries from as far as Australia and Japan.

A total of 28 cars had entered the race

Faidzil Alang said,“Basically, we got together a very good team. Most importantly, this is a group of die-hard and very passionate people when comes to racing. It should be an exciting experience and enjoyable time at Sepang.”

Commenting on PROTON’s achievements so far, Group Branding, Marketing & Motorsports Director, John Doody Chacko said,“At PROTON, we are committed to be better and this extends to both competition and in the manufacturing of production vehicles for the global market. We are also committed to winning, and excelling in competition significantly supports our aspiration of becoming a truly competitive global car manufacturer.”

Head of Motorsports and R3 Team, Datuk Abdul Razak Dawood said, “Racing and rallying is very important for PROTON and R3 to establish our brand premium and physical demonstration of our products and parts.”

“After successfully completing an unprecedented hat-trick of titles in the local and international racing scene for PROTON Motorsports and after dominating the Asia Pacific Rally Championship and Malaysian Touring Car Championships (MTC) in the Malaysian Super Series (MSS), we look forward to a successful curtain closer for PROTON this year.”
